How Pocket Diapers Work

bumGenius 3.0 One-Size Diaper

While there are a number of brands of pocket diapers on the market today, the general idea is the same and is actually patented by the mother who invented them.   A pocket diaper earns its name because it is essentially a fitted, waterproof diaper cover sewn together with a soft, fitted interior to form a pocket.  The pocket is then stuffed with an absorbent insert. (Included with bumGenius, FuzziBunz, and Happy Heiny's, sold separately with Knickernappies)

The advantages of the pocket diaper design include:

Simplicity

* No need for plastic pants or covers
* Simple closures of "velcro" or snaps make use easy for dads, babysitters, grandparents, and moms!
* Fabrics used in pocket diapers are easy to launder and care for, making laundry day hassle-free.

Ability to Control Absorbency

* Different brands and types of inserts can be used.
* More than one insert can be used at once for overnight, long trips, etc.

Dry, Healthy Skin for Baby!

* Baby's skin is in closest contact with the interior fabric instead of the insert that actually absorbs liquids, so baby's skin stays drier and healthier!
